I truly believe everything in life happens for a reason and I believe I was destined to become both a Chiropractor and Pettibon practitioner.  The way I was introduced to both was far too coincidental to be an accident.

When I was a child I suffered with severe asthma.  Smoke, pollen, exercise, high altitudes, really just about anything could and did set off "asthmatic attacks."  I was hospitalized for the attacks on several occasions and even "celebrated" Thanksgiving one year in the hospital underneath an oxygen tent.  The doctor told me at that time that my symptoms may ease somewhat as I grew older, but I would suffer with it the rest of my life.  And suffer I did, until I was 25 years old.  Then something happened that completely changed my life.

A friend witnessed one of my asthmatic attacks.  She had never seen me have one before.  She asked if I'd ever seen a chiropractor about my asthma.  I thought Chiropractor?  What in this world is a chiropractor going to do for my asthma?Truthfully, all I knew of chiropractors were that they were considered by many to be "quacks" and "snake-oil" salesmen.  At best I thought they may help a little with low back pain.  My friend listened to my concerns and said, "Look Paul, just go in and talk to the chiropractor, see what he says and, if it makes sense to you, then decide what to do from there."  Had I not had such respect for my friend it would have probably ended there but I knew I did not want to depend on inhalers and other drugs for the rest of my life so I figured "what have I got to lose?"

I had a meeting with  the chiropractor and he explained in great detail to me the relationship between health and the function of the nervous system.  A light bulb started to go on in my head.  He told me that if I had a mis-alignment in my spine and that misalignment was causing an irritation on the nerves which go to my lungs, then my lungs could overreact to irritants in the environment. 

The more I thought about all he said, the more it made sense.  So I decided to receive an examination after which he took x-rays of my spine.  The x-rays showed a distortion in my spine in the upper back area, where the nerves exit to go to the lungs.  So I started receiving care.  Here I sit, 40 years old and I have not had another asthmatic attack since I was 25, when I was having them anywhere from 2-3 times a week to sometimes 1-2 times a day.  Needless to say, I was quite impressed.

Due to my own personal miraculous results, I decided to go back to school to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.  I graduated from the Life University College of Chiropractic, with honors, in March 2000.  After passing my National and Louisiana State Board examinations, I began practicing in Madisonville, LA in February 2001.  Then in April 2002, my wife, Dr. Gisele, and I opened the Global Health Center in Mandeville, LA - renamed the Advanced Wellness Center in 2008.

One concern I always had with my experiences with traditional or conventional chiropractic, both as doctor and as patient, was that the results were often temporary and care really never seemed to end.  I would release people after resolving their symptoms only to have them return weeks, months or years later with the same problem all over again.  The promise of chiropractic was to re-align the spine, thereby eliminating the underlying cause of the symptoms.  Unfortunately, I discovered in my practice that, while it could give relief, conventional chiropractic simply did not predictably or reliably change the position of the spine.  It was a promise I found unfulfilled.  I was somewhat discouraged by this revelation.  But that was when "fate" stepped in once again and I ran into an old friend and fellow chiropractor, Dr. Brent D.

Dr. Brent introduced me to the Pettibon System; a very reliable and predictable scientifically based system that actually can achieve the long term  spinal corrections that truly do eliminate the underlying cause of many health issues.  It is a system that is capable, in many cases, of putting the spine in the position where herniated discs can actually rehydrate and regenerate... a healing that is readily visible on post-care x-rays. 

We have been using the Pettibon System for over two years now and the results have been nothing short of miraculous.  We routinely take post-care x-rays on our patients to show that the changes we expected to achieve did actually occur.  And if the patient has followed all instructions during care, those changes actually are happening!  I personally have never seen anything like it with any other technique out there.

I am extremely proud to count myself among the growing number of Pettibon practitioners around the US and Canada and I see this as the future of chiropractic.  Pettibon practitioners are intensively trained by the Pettibon Institute to achieve the highest quality care possible.  I have found it well worth the countless hours I have invested into learning this system and many of our patients who have been under the care of other chiropractic techniques, myself as my wife's patient included, are experiencing results we never achieved elsewhere.  The comment I most often hear from patients who received prior chiropractic care elsewhere is that this is a completely unique and different experience compared to all other chiropractic techniques, not to mention unique and different compared to physical therapy treatments and medical treatments.  But it is what we do as Pettibon practitioners that is different that gives us the fantastic long-term results we achieve in our office. 

Pettibon is a two-way street, meaning the patient is actively involved in their care and home rehabilitation is absolutely required for optimal results.  But those willing to make the commitment find it the best decision they have ever made in their lives.  And that makes it all worthwhile.

Best of all with Pettibon, the examination and x-ray qualifying process let's us know whether a person can benefit from this system, how long care will take, what needs to be done during care and what is the expected outcome when care is finished, provided all recommendations are followed both at home as well as in the office.

Not everyone qualifies for the Pettibon System.  We only accept patients in our office who will truly benefit from this system and those we cannot accept receive referrals to other physicians so they can get the help they need.

In 2008, we changed the name of our clinic to Advanced Wellness Center to fully reflect all the services we offer.  As a Wellness Coach, I believe there are three causes of health problems.  First is physical trauma (auto accidents, bad falls, damage caused by the birth process, and repetitive stress such as lifting things improperly and working at a computer in an awkward position) which we deal with through the use of the Pettibon System.
